I'm not particularly surprised that the Awl let an unspeakable dickhead write something that nasty for them - their editorial policy (ie "trendy haircut and/or good unpublished writer - you're in") would tend towards that (DD, did you introduce me to the Awl or vv or neither?). But CHRIST THE FUCK to the comments. Garr.
I can't quite decide whether to write an angered personal response based on my personal life or leave it. Strongly leaning towards the latter, but if anyone thinks I'm being over-English and should do the former let me know.
No, I think Stephen Poole introduced both of us to it. I do think it's usually quite good though, most usually because tends to take a much more charitable and less studiedly arseholeish approach to the subject matter. But yes, I must say that comments thread is one of those things like a clock striking thirteen (not only is it wrong, it makes you realise that you can't ever trust that clock again and have to reassess all the past occasions you relied on it).
(European readers - I mean, like a clock striking twenty five).
The guy who wrote it is kind of a nut.

Oh dear.
ReplyDeleteThe comments thread deserves to be taken down and given in evidence, too.

"The sad thing is that the Awl is usually a rather good site."
ReplyDeleteThe sad thing is that you think so.
But that's humorless.
You're joking, right?
better
