Thursday music link

Psychedelic music has always been huge in Wales, basically because it rains all the fucking time, which is good for the mushrooms. Wales takes drugs in psychic defence against the weather.

  1. The weather logic doesn't really hold for Manchester, which is even wetter. I suspect it's the combination of rain and landscapes, together.

  2. Nathan Myrvhold strikes again!

This time it's something that can be meaningfully prototyped in a lab, which is unfortunate because it may actually use up real budget that could otherwise be spent on outputs, and in this particular application, diverting resources into vanity projects and keeping his staff in middle-class comfort in Bellevue, WA is tantamount to a war crime.

Jesus wept, anti-malarial protection that needs mains electricity. I could weep.

  3. The insects survived this particular test, which used a non-lethal laser

oh Lord. I hope, against hope, that this guy also follows a paleo-diet.

In general, trying to do malaria control by mosquito eradication (rather than by disrupting the plasmodium's cycle with nets and prophylactics) has a strong air of "what could possibly go wrong" about it, like any other planned extermination.

Or, laser-equipped drone aircraft could track bugs by radar, sweeping the sky with death-dealing photons

    priceless.

  4. I thought it was big in Wales because that's where the hippies go to live. I would also be unsurprised to pass a house in Cornwall and hear Gong coming through an open window.

  5. Rain and landscape...that would deal with the Verve, and also the town of Hebden Bridge.

  6. What, lesbianism is caused by damp weather?

Let's see if that gets past the spam filter.

Oregon and Washington State also confirm the "rain + landscape = enthusiasm for unhinging the doors of perception" hypothesis. Also, in eastern Oregon, where it rains less, they're all survivalist militia nutters like in Idaho. What about Ireland though? Booze is their mushrooms?
