David Bowie is not Welsh
Eric Sykes is still alive.
New Order did not pay for the recording of Wet Wet Wet's first demo.
The Bosnian Serbs did not take ecstasy before carrying out massacres.
I'm basically putting these here as a reminder to myself more than anything else. Do any other readers have strange beliefs like this, which are completely untrue but it feels like they sort of seem to remember reading them somewhere? It's a very strange sort of jamais vu phenomenon.
I'm agnostic on Eric Sykes, but I seem to be convinced that most actors who were alive in the 60s are dead. The other day I'd killed off Tom Courtenay, Albert Finney and Terence Stamp before the other half expressed doubts and sent me back to IMDB.
ReplyDeleteI blame Alan Bates.
Prince did not write TLC's 'Waterfalls'.
ReplyDeleteThis is deeply strange, and it's not so much I remember reading it somewhere, but I do sometimes - fleetingly - think that David Cameron is Shaun Woodward (the Tory MP who had a butler and defected to Labour), and its only remembering that you can't lead the Tory party if you've defected to Labour that reminds me.
ReplyDeleteLooking him up, he looks nothing like Cameron, but he was the MP for Witney before Cameron, so maybe that's where it comes from.
Don't talk to me about Shaun Woodward. No, let me talk to you about Shaun Woodward. It's a curious story.
ReplyDeleteYeah, you can't keep away from the people you were at college with if you went to Oxbridge: they keep cropping up. Before I went I'd never, I think, come across anybody composed of ambition. To have decided at the age of 16 or 17 (or presumably earlier) that one was going to succeed and rise to the top: not really something you see in a comp.
ReplyDeleteI knew this guy at school, but he's had a much less interesting trajectory than Woodward - he's a Tory MP now, he was a Tory councillor before that, and he was a Tory boy when I knew him. And it wasn't a comp.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could remember the name of the creationist National Front supporter in our class. Hope he's not an MP now...
Email me whenever Andrew Pelling speaks
ReplyDeleteEven in my most egotistical moments I would never think of inviting people to do that.
