Guantanameropen
I just realised that plenty of mainstream US Democrats, having spent the last however long castigating people to the left of them for perceiving some progressive tendencies in the government of Fidel Castro, are now reduced to supporting the re-election of a President who imprisons people without human rights in Cuba, but who has made excellent advances in the field of bringing healthcare to the poor.
Update Furthermore, can anyone tell me why the millionaire author Barack Obama seems to keen to extend tax cuts which benefit millionaires?
One more proof that we're living in an edition of The Onion.
ReplyDelete"who has made excellent advances in the field of bringing healthcare to the poor"
ReplyDeleteDon't be stupid. Half of that goes away with the latest "compromise," and the rest will never be funded because of the next-step of "savings by committee."
Start calling it ObamaCouldn'tCareLess: it's DOA, with the gains from the past year to be reversed under Bachmann-Perry Overdrive, starting 20 Jan 2013 in a country you should avoid at all costs.
I really, really admire this blog's commitment to non-headline-drivenness. This post should win some sort of award.

ReplyDeleteIts probably about time to work out what the differences between him and Bush are. I have:
+ Doesn't hate the gays
+ Neutral on abortion
+ Probably believes vaguely in climate change, but not enough to actually do anything about it.
The other list of similarities is about 12 pages long now. And growing fast.
This is a test of character. The only sentiment appropriate for foreigners towards a Democratic voter now is pity. All blog posts on the subject should just be variants on the sentiment of "At least some day the sweet release of death will claim you, you poor miserable bastard."
ReplyDeleteI'm reminded of the experience of voting for the Liberal Democrats.
ReplyDeleteI'm tempted to say that I'm reminded of the experience of voting.
ReplyDeleteWow, Walt actually made me laugh out loud and I would have thought that I was totally past laughing. Looking forward to the sweet release!

ReplyDeleteThis differs from the situation of Labour voters in Britain how, exactly?

Imagine for a moment, Chris, that Labour looked like the promised land, the answer to all your prayers. A genuinely progressive, focused and democratic political force.
ReplyDeleteWell if you're a Democrat, that's what Labour look like. That's how fucked they are.
hell, they probably envy even the lib-tory coalition.
ReplyDeleteI have, in fact, heard American liberals envy the lib-tory coalition.
ReplyDeleteCian/Walt
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed, we often envy the fact that European conservatives are more liberal than the Democratic party.
But is also is a sign of how nut-crazy conservatives are, and how much they have taken on a near religous crusade to bring down Obama (as with Clinton). So much so that they would be willing to drive the country off a cliff just to make sure they get him. Suicide bombers are, unfortunately, a very difficult enemy to counter. . .
Ps - captcha word is "hatedip", and I am thinking of various ways to interpret that. . .
I have, in fact, heard American liberals envy the dead.
ReplyDeleteFixed that.
I don't see why you think millionaire Barack Obama "seems keen" to extend tax cuts which help millionaires. It seems to me that he keeps trying to end them.
ReplyDeleteFor one thing he has already signed a bill which increased his taxes. It is called uh acronymed the PPACA. You seem to have heard of it.
Te fact is that he no more writes the US tax code than you do. Why haven't you ended tax cuts for US millionaires ?
On the other hand, the comparison with Castro is brilliant.
