The great, the good, and me

If this is the same guy, and the fact that he's a mate of Hannam strongly suggests to me that it is, he was at university at the same time as me. I think I coined a nickname for him, but I can't remember what. Hmm, I thought this was going to make a more interesting post than it apparently did. Good to see all my contemporaries going bald though.

This was, for me, the most satisfactory aspect of my college gaudy a few weeks back.

  2. Nickname?

Assuming it was a printable one, you surely called him Eric.

But as he grew up to be a Tory MP perhaps it wasn't a printable one...

  5. I had the same thought as Charlie, though I didn't realise Eric did anything post-1978/8. And that video really does have Poly Styrene on bass (Nick Lowe played on the studio version) and Ian Dury on drums.

  6. I'd rather have my teeth knocked out with a chisel than go to a gaudy.

  7. I didn't know what a Gaudy was until I looked it up (they're called something different at the other place) but I agree completely with EJH. I didn't go to the dinners when I was there and I certainly wouldn't go back to attend one now. I'm in contact with those contemporaries who I want to be in contact with (who usually remark on my splendid full head of hair) but can think of nothing worse than a college reunion dinner.

    Guano

  8. Every week you can have me in your home as your personal chef and join me in preparing great tasting, good for you foods.

  9. Jesus Christ, one of my old colleagues is an actual Tory MP!

  10. Alex> There's two from the year below me - one of whom was tipped for big things by Tatler, and the other has effectively succeeded to his dad's old seat. I think they're going to be well-known in a few years. Which is a shame, as they're actually quite decent folk, ISTR.
